How you can help Scannappeal in Amersham

Scannappeal is a local charity dedicated to raising funds to provide state of the art medical equipment for Amersham, Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe and Community Hospitals which serve people living in Buckinghamshire and neighbouring parts of Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Oxfordshire.  The equipment it funds assists Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to deliver the best possible diagnosis and life changing care whilst supporting the hospitals’ growing reputations as centres of excellence.

Since its foundation over 30 years ago, Scannappeal has raised over £15 million and purchased equipment for every major department in each of the county’s hospitals.  1 in 4 of the local population has used Scannappeal funded equipment and patients accessing Buckinghamshire’s health services benefit from more efficient diagnosis and treatment through the availability of cutting edge equipment that the NHS is unable to fund.

Scannappeal operates several appeals for specific equipment at any one time. Each appeal is designed to support an identifiable healthcare outcome and is only undertaken following a rigorous assessment. This approach ensures only requests that deliver the greatest benefit to patients are pursued and that the charity only purchases equipment beyond the scope of the NHS.

Scannappeal’s current Appeals include:

  • Scannappeal-Bucks-MRI-Appeal- BeaconsfieldBucks MRI Appeal – £1.5m is being raised for two revolutionary MRI scanners. Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals will be the first in the UK to benefit from this ground breaking equipment providing enhanced image quality, quicker scan times and a greatly improved patient experience.
  • The Breast Biopsy Appeal – £350,000 is being raised to fully equip a dedicated biopsy suite with lifesaving 3D mammography technology. Targeted biopsies will be carried out quicker with pinpoint accuracy, significantly reducing the time patients need to wait from diagnosis to treatment.
  • Small Projects Programme – £5,000-£25,000 Appeals for specialist, often community located equipment to support respiratory medicine, audiology, endoscopy and haematology amongst others.

Scannappeal is funded solely by the donations received from the public and events. It is staffed by a small professional team and its fundraising activities, and could not operate without the dedication and commitment from its volunteers.
