Chalfont St Giles Junior School gets Outstanding Ofsted rating

Chalfont St Giles Village School are delighted to announce that their Junior School site has been awarded an ‘outstanding’ grade in their recent Ofsted inspection.

The inspection, which took place over two days on 23 and 24 January, praised Mrs Peal and her team, saying “This is a school which places no limits on what pupils can achieve, both academically and personally.”

Ofsted rated the school outstanding in all categories, including effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and the outcomes of pupils.

Highlights from the report include the following:

  • Pupils love coming to school and are engrossed in their learning.
  • Skilled teachers plan activities that stretch pupils’ minds. The impact of this is evident in pupils’ well-rounded knowledge across a range of subjects.
  • Passionate leaders and staff are united in their determination that all pupils achieve their potential.

Head teacher Mrs Peal said, “I can’t thank the children enough.  It is down to their excellent attitudes to learning and the amazing hard work of all our dedicated staff that we have achieved this result.  The report shows that we have both happy children and happy staff who love coming to school each day and the balance between this and our high academic expectations is something for the whole community to be proud of.  The whole team are thrilled that their hard work and dedication has been recognised.”

Chair of Governors, Donna Westall, noted “It is very pleasing that the hard work, strong principles and vision of school leaders has been recognised by the inspectors.  I would add that exactly the same ethos applies in our Infant School and Nursery, an equally happy, nurturing environment.  We are proud of every member of the school family.”

The inspection was undertaken by Professor Michael Green HMI and Sarah Hubbard HMI, Ofsted’s National lead for English.  The inspection was also overseen by Matthew Haynes, Senior HMI. The full report can be read at reports.ofsted.gov.uk/
